Tale abbecedario rappresenta una testimonianza significativa del livello raggiunto, alla vigilia delle grandi riforme petrine, dalla letteratura didattica russa destinata all'istruzione elementare, erede della tradizione fissata da Ivan Fëdorov nel manuale stampato a Leopoli nel 1574. L'edizione è accompagnata da una prefazione e un commento che collocano l'abbecedario nel contesto storico-culturale e letterario russo della seconda metà del XVII secolo, in particolar modo in rapporto agli abbecedari e ai manuali grammaticali in circolazione all'epoca.
